Borsho Boron! - Bengali New Year Promotion at United Kitchens of India!

UKI has become popular for dishing out cuisines from different states of the country. I was invited to attend a preview of the Bengali New Year promotion which had a fantastic menu curated by some esteemed bloggers. The food, as we discovered throughout the preview, was drool-worthy and satisfying(okay, this stands true if you like Bengali cuisine!). Delicacies like Mochar chop(banana flower chop/cutlet) which were served at very beginning became hugely popular amongst us and set the expectation levels high. But we weren't disappointed at all! The tender beguni(batter fried eggplant slices) tasted really good when had with kasundi(a typical Bengali mustard sauce).

So while we were treated with Mochar Chop, Beguni and Murshidabadi chicken, we were only half way through the starters! Mutton Kobiraji(mutton covered with an egg wrap and then deep fried) was a pleasant surprise. In simple words, it tasted really good and was cooked well. And how can I not mention the Bhetki Fry and Dimer devil? A delicious and fresh bhetki fish batter-fried that had the right balance of taste of fish and flavor of batter. Dimer devil is the bengali version of scotch eggs.

The main course had half a dozen curries, all vying with each other to attract the diner's attention. For me the best ones were Siraji mutton(I have had this earlier as well), shorshe bhetki(Bhetki fish in mustard gravy) and chingri malai curry(prawns in a creamy curry). The luchi was defintely there to give company to the dishes and then came the mishti pulao(sweet pulao) which was quite good. Not to miss the Kaanch Aamer Chaatni(Raw mango chutney) - the sourness of green mango was well balanced by the sweetness added to the dish. I really liked it along with some plain rice.

I was so full that I hardly had any space for desserts, but who can say no to a Sondesh! They also have Payesh(porridge) and Nolen gur Rasogulla in desserts.

It was indeed a good experience and I would say its a steal at Rs 749(AI) for Lunch, Rs 799(AI) for Dinner. The festival is on till 24th of April and table has to be booked in advance. Would definitely recommend all to have a Bengali gastronomic experience!
